(KMOV) – Police in St. Charles are investigating what could be an alarming trend after two women were attacked at different shopping centers in broad daylight.

St. Peters police say a man robbed a woman at knifepoint at Bed Bath and Beyond, and police in St. Charles are wondering if the same suspect tried to target a woman in that city.

The suspect is said to be in his teens or 20s, about 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet 1 inch, thin and carried a strong odor of cigarette smoke.

A woman told police that on Tuesday, a man fitting that description hoped into her car in the parking lot of Bed Bath and Beyond. pulled out a knife and demanded money. He reportedly took her money and made a dash. She was not hurt.

Police in St. Charles say a man fitting the same description tried to kidnap a woman at a Target store about 30 minutes later and about three miles away.

Anyone with information should call St. Charles or St. Peters police.
