ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Funeral arrangements have been made in the death of a 7-year-old girl who was shot while playing on a playground on May 24.
J'Nayla Douglas died from her injuries from the shooting on June 7.
The wake for J'Nayla will be held 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Ronald L. Jones Funeral Chapel in St. Louis. The funeral will follow the wake.
The 48-year-old man accused of shooting J'Nayla is facing murder charges.
The shooting happened in the 1400 block of Castle Lane in south St. Louis city. Officials say two men were arguing near a playground in the Peabody housing complex when Elvis Smith allegedly pulled out a gun and started shooting. J'Nayla was struck in the head.
Residents say at least 15 children were on the playground when the shots rang out.
Smith, of the 4000 block of Kennerly, was charged with second degree murder, first degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, and unlawful firearm possession.
