WEBB CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The band often referred to as the first metal band from Iraq is scheduled to play a weekend show in southwest Missouri.
Acrassicauda, a thrash metal band originally based in Baghdad, is scheduled to will play Saturday night in Webb City. Band members say they're inspired by such bands as Metallica and Slayer. A Joplin newspaper reports the band is on tour across the U.S.
The band was featured in the 2007 documentary "Heavy Metal in Baghdad," which told the story of how the band formed and struggled to play in Iraq under tight censorship.
Band members settled in the U.S. in 2009. The current tour also includes stops in Chicago and Oklahoma City.
