ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri Western State University has identified a student who died in a swimming pool accident as DeRico M. Morris of St. Louis.
The university says Morris was a 22-year-old sophomore at the St. Joseph school. He worked as a student supervisor for the summer operation of the office of housing and residential life.
Morris was among several people swimming in the campus pool Wednesday when he went into the deep end. A lifeguard pulled him from the pool and started CPR after noticing he'd been under water for an extended period.
Morris died later at a St. Joseph hospital. Officials say the accident did not occur during a class.
