(KMOV) – Some U.S. lawmakers are trying to get the FDA to ban chemical-based, hair-straightening products due to toxic chemicals.
After a 2010 study found high levels of formaldehyde in products sold under the name “Brazilian Blowout,” members of congress want the items to be recalled.
Salon workers say they suffered breathing problems, sore throats and had itchy eyes after use.
While some products are labeled formaldehyde free, lawmakers want to test and research all hair straightening chemicals.
If formaldehyde was found in a product, the FDA would put a warning label on the item.
