Teen charged as adult in shooting of Metro-East middle schooler

(KMOV) -- A 15-year-old boy is charged as an adult for allegedly shooting an East St. Louis classmate on Tuesday afternoon.

Officials say that 15-year-old Langston Fifer turned himself in on Wednesday. He was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm.

According to police the shooting occurred after an altercation in the 600 block of 41st Street around 4:00 p.m.

Police say 14-year-old Tyrone Riley was walking with Fifer from Clark Middle School, when Fifer allegedly shot the victim in the back.

Police say that both are students at Clark Middle School, but Fifer had recently been suspended.

The victim is at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in stable condition.
