SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- A Springfield daycare center operator has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a child who was in her care.
A Sangamon County circuit judge has set bond at $1 million for 63-year-old Cammie Kelly.
Kelly was operating a daycare out of her apartment on Jan. 18, when 11-month-old Kaiden M. Gullidge of Rochester was taken to St. John's Hospital after becoming unresponsive. He was later taken to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, where he died Jan. 20.
An autopsy determined the boy died from blunt trauma to the head.
Sangamon County State's Attorney John Milhiser noted Monday the investigation took months because investigators had to determine what happened and determine who was responsible.
It was not immediately known if Kelly has obtained legal representation.
