(KMOV) – Officials in the Parkfield Terrace subdivision near Cahokia, Illinois are targeting abandoned houses that police say are a part of the crime problem in the area.
Residents say they’ve noticed more police patrolling in their neighborhood since this spring. Police held a National Night Out party on Tuesday to send a message that they’re there to stay, and that more changed are on the way.
St. Clair County has singled out 26 abandoned houses for demolition, and the project is up for bid. If the project is approved by the county board, the homes will be torn down.
The price tag of the demolition plan is still unknown. Once bids for demolition come in, the county board will be asked to approve the cost.
