(KMOV) -- A man in Cottage Hills, Ill., was taken into custody Sunday after battering the mother of his children and cutting an officer.

James Ramsey, 38, of Wood River, Ill., was charged with felony Aggravated Battery after police responded to a 9-1-1 call.
According to officials, the female caller has two children with Ramsey. And, despite an active order of protection, she allowed Ramsey to come to her home to visit their children.
While on the way to the home, Ramsey battered the woman and threatened more physical harm to her. Once at the home, he broke numerous items then refused to allow the two children to leave the home and attempted to injure himself with a knife.
After only allowing one child to leave, deputies used force to enter the home. Ramsey fought the deputies, cutting one on the hand with a knife. The deputy did not require hospital treatment.
Ramsey is being held on a $40,000 bond at Madison County Jail. In addition to felony Aggravated Battery, he has also been charged with Domestic Battery, Unlawful Violation of an Order of Protection and Criminal Damage to Property.
