(KMOV.com) -- Wentzville firefighters had to extricate a 2-year-old boy from a gun safe at a Lowes home improvement store when the boy managed to lock himself inside.
On Saturday evening, Wentzville firefighters were called to the scene in the 1800 block of Wenzville Parkway in Wentzville, Missouri to rescue the young boy who, according to authorities, had somehow locked himself in a gun safe.
Upon arrival, the firefighters were shown to the gun case with the child inside. The crews were able to talk to the boy and keep him calm. Officials said crews used a drill to make a hole in the top of the safe to allow an oxygen tube to be inserted.
While crews worked, store staff attempted to unlock the safe with a key and combination, but were unsuccessful, so firefighters started using pry bars and hydraulic rescue tools to open the safe.
The door of the safe was eventually pried open and the boy came out of the safe unharmed. The 2-year-old was checked out by paramedics as a precaution.
