Beyond Iowa, Santorum faces a daunting challenge

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) -- Republican presidential contender Rick Santorum is surging in Iowa. But after Tuesday's caucuses, the former Pennsylvania senator faces daunting challenges if he hopes to keep pace with Mitt Romney and his other rivals.

Santorum will emerge from Iowa with very little money and virtually no national infrastructure. Republicans in New Hampshire and beyond suggest there's not enough time for Santorum to build the organization he needs. He'll have just a week before the New Hampshire primary, and South Carolina and Florida host their contests before the end of the month.

Santorum says he'll compete aggressively in New Hampshire and the other states. But he won't have much money.

He's relying on a supporter's pickup truck for transportation in Iowa. And campaign officials concede they can't afford television advertising.
