(KMOV.com) -- New alert sirens in St. Louis County will be tested on Monday to ensure their functionality in case of an emergency.
The test will begin at 11 a.m. after emergency officials activate the new siren system. The voice system will be activated as well before and after the test.
As in the past, the sirens are intended as an outdoor warning system. While the sirens may be heard inside some structures, they are designed for outdoor warning only.
According to emergency officials, the old siren system will not be activated for this test. This means there will be change in the pattern of coverage and the siren tone will be louder or quieter depending on location. For most residents, there will be an increase in coverage.
