(KMOV) – The East St. Louis Police Department is investigating the death of a St. Louis man after his body was discovered in the 700 block of Veronica on Friday morning.

The body of Daniel D. Mathis was discovered after police received an emergency call regarding shots being fired around 2 a.m. on Friday. 

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a 2003-2008 gold or tan colored 4-door Nissan car that was seen in the area at the time of the shooting. The vehicle has Illinois license plates that begin with “H.”

Investigators are seeking any information regarding Mathis’s whereabouts and dealings prior to 2:30 a.m. on Friday.

The cause of death has not been determined and the investigation is ongoing.
