(KMOV) – A north St. Louis alderman says O’Fallon Park is being used to train attack dogs, and this happens just a few feet from where kids play.

Alderman Antonio French proposed a bill to stop the behavior.

“What we've witnessed is a man standing in a padded suit, then getting the dog to attack the gut,” Alderman French said. “Then the man even beats them with an object or a whip just to make them more aggressive…it really makes the park unsafe for other folks."

French says it’s common to see as many as two dozen unleashed dogs training in O’Fallon Park on weekends.

If his bill passes, those trainers would face a $500 fine.
