(KMOV) – A day after the announcement came that more than 1,800 jobs will be coming to the GM plant in Wentzville, city leaders say those jobs may create even more jobs.
The mayor says he wants to capitalize on GM’s growth now, and the city is looking to start up a vocational and trade education site near the plant at the CenturyLink campus.
The city is talking to leaders of 500 companies within a 35-mile radius of Wentzville, asking them what they need in terms of workers. This is helping them gather information on how to generate a pool of employees in St. Charles, Franklin, Lincoln, Montgomery, Pike and Warren Counties to feed an anticipated business explosion due to GM’s expansion.
They also have St. Louis University conducting an analysis study for them on how to create jobs and train workers to fill those jobs. That study should be completed in June.
