ST. LOUIS (AP) -- St. Louis police say an intruder who kicked in the back door of a home is dead after being shot by a man who was guarding the vacant structure being renovated.
Investigators did not immediately identify the 39-year-old alleged intruder or the 48-year-old house
sitter who allegedly shot him early Friday.
Police say the would-be burglar was forcing his way into the home when the house sitter got a firearm and tried to re-secure the door, then fired one round that hit the victim in the chest.
The intruder died a short time later.
There was no immediate word on any arrests or charges.
