Man charged in connection to deadly downtown hit-and-run

ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Police are holding a 27-year-old man without bond after a deadly hit-and-run near downtown St. Louis early Thursday morning.

The accident happened around 2:45 a.m. near the intersection of Broadway and Lafayette outside the Socialhouse Bar.

The investigation revealed there was a fight on a parking lot near the venue.

Authorities said the suspect vehicle, a green Mercury Minivan, drove onto the parking lot and drove toward a group of people including 40-year-old Gary Patch, of the 400 block of Burroughs in Columbia, Illinois.

Patch was struck by the van and thrown into the air before being dragged by the suspect vehicle. Patch was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect vehicle was located nearby and the suspect was later located as well. The suspect, Emmanuel Sanchez, has been charged with second degree murder, first degree assault and two counts of armed criminal action and possession of up to 35 grams of marijuana.
