(KMOV)- The Corrections Department is at least 35 officers short right now with some of their staff getting over 96 hours of approved overtime.
Joan Williams represents the corrections officers and claims that only certain connected employees are racking up outrageous numbers of extra hours. "It's my understanding the people who are working it are the result of family, friends who've been getting special favors of supervisors," she said.
Last year the Corrections Department spent over $2 million on overtime.
Department head, Eugene Stubblefield is suspended while the overtime and escape issues are being investigated.
Officials won't say how long their investigation may take.
