(KMOV) – Several shots are fired at officers while they investigate another shooting in East St. Louis early Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened at 8301 St. Street just after 2 a.m.

According to authorities, officers responded to the scene at 2:15 a.m. to find a male victim shot in the lower back. The victim was allegedly shot after getting into an argument with another person.

Police say that while officers were investigating, a red mustang, with a white strip and large rims, pulled up to the scene and fired several shots towards the officers. According to witnesses on the scene, the suspect allegedly fired several shots causing a few officers to hit the ground to avoid being hit.

Officers from several counties pursued the Mustang but were unable to locate the vehicle or suspect.

No injuries were reported from the second shooting. The victim of the first shooting was taken to an area hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

Police tell News 4 that they have a person of interest in custody that they believe was the driver. No arrest have been made at this time.

Anyone with information on the suspects or vehicle involved is urged to call East St. Louis Police Department.
