(KMOV.com) -- A 15-year-old girl from Jerseyville, Illinois who was reported missing after her family says she ran off with a convicted sex offender has been found safe in Colorado, search and rescue officials say.
A tipster reportedly recognized the man Arica Blair was with and called authorities. The pair was found just outside Pueblo, Colorado at a local Wal-Mart.
Both were taken into custody. John David Allen was taken in for investigation of possible criminal charges, and Blair was taken in for her own protection.
Arica Blair had been missing since Thursday, and had been on the run with John David Allen, who pleaded guilty in December 2010 to aggravated criminal assault for having sex with a 13-year-old girl.
Allen was set to appear in court at the end of September to have his parole revoked. According to authorities, he has refused to register as a sex offender and was even arrested while on parole. He also has a laundry list of other crimes including burglary and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The family said Blair would shut out anyone in the family who told her to stay away from Allen.
On August 29, Allen was arrested in Jerseyville for driving under the influence of drugs. Arica's sister wants to know how Allen managed to escape jail time. Arica's family said if the legal system had been more vigilant, Allen would be behind bars and Arica would be safe at home.
