(KMOV)—The Illinois Commission is putting on an event to allow residents to voice struggles and concerns with living in poverty in the East St. Louis area.
The "Illinois Commission to End Hunger" hearing tour will be at the Mary Brown Center in East Saint Louis on Monday September, 19. The hearing will give people a chance to hear first-hand accounts of how families are struggling to get by.
Local food banks have seen the number of those they assist increase over the last year as the level of extreme poverty grows.
The session begins at 12p.m. and will run until 3p.m.
The center is at 606 S. 15th Street in East St. Louis.
