(KMOV) —A local woman watching the air show is now missing after an airplane crashed in Reno, Nevada killing nine people.
Cherie Elvin from Lenexa, Kansas is now considered missing after the World War II plane plunged to the ground and into the crowd where she was in attendance. The family is holding out hope she wandered off in shock and is perhaps lost somewhere.
Elvin was at the air show with her husband, two sons and their wives. All other family members were accounted for and hospitalized after the accident each losing some part of their right leg. They are expected to be OK.
This is a traditional trip Cherie and her family make each year since they have a love of aviation.
Doctors treating this family and others injured in the crash say this is among the worst situations they'd ever seen because of the large number of people injured. They've seen more than 70 patients; more than 30 are still in the hospital at this time.
The search is ongoing at this time.
