JUPITER, Fla. (AP) -- The St. Louis Cardinals are looking hard at finding their fifth starter, now that Adam Wainwright will be lost for the season to have Tommy John elbow surgery.
Kyle McClellan says he's ready. After entering previous camps prepared to battle for a rotation spot, McClellan came to Jupiter, Fla., this year as a reliever.
All 202 appearances in McClellan's three-year major league career have come in relief. McClellan finished 1-4 with a 2.27 ERA in 68 appearances last season.
He says he's put in his time and is ready to develop all four pitches to start.
