JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Kansas City added to its distinction as the largest city in Missouri during the past decade.
U.S. Census Bureau figures obtained Thursday by The Associated Press show Kansas City had a population of almost 460,000 people in 2010. That's an increase of more than 18,000 people, or about 4 percent. The Census Bureau was to formally release the figures later Thursday.
Missouri's largest city once was St. Louis. But that city's population has declined significantly during the past century. The new census figures show the population of St. Louis fell by 8 percent during the past decade to a little over 319,000 people.
