POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (AP) -- A 4-year-old southeast Missouri girl is dead, allegedly after being beaten at a neighbor's home where she was spending the night.
The Poplar Bluff Daily American Republic reports that 28-year-old Jeremy McIntosh of Poplar Bluff is jailed on $1 million bond for child abuse resulting in death. McIntosh did not yet have an attorney, according to Missouri's online court reporting system, Casenet.
The victim is Zoey Slagler. Police Chief Danny Whiteley says McIntosh is the next-door neighbor of Zoey's mother and step-father, who dropped off the child Thursday to spend the night at McIntosh's home.
Whiteley says McIntosh told police he struck the child several times because she would not obey and cried because she wanted her parents.
