(KMOV)-- A man is suffering serious injuries after police say his car went airborne and landed in the Illinois River.
Charles Sidwell, 58, was driving westbound on Rt. 108 near the Kampsville Ferry around 10:30 Saturday night.
Officials say Sidwell failed to stop at a stop sign before his Jeep flew into the river.
A ferry operator pushed the Jeep closer to the bank, so a Greene County deputy could remove the man from the vehicle.
Sidwell claims that his breaks were not working properly. He is charged with a DUI, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, and Disobeying a Traffic Control Device.
Sidwell was taken to the Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
