Spring Training Report: Fans getting crazy

The Cardinals are in Jupiter, Florida for spring training. Our own Brian Feldman is in the middle of all the action. Brian will provide constant updates, so check back through the day for the very latest news.

Feb. 21, 11:35 a.m. - It's good for fans to support players...I understand that. But is it really necessary for a grown man to shout constantly at these guys telling them how happy they are to see them? They're just people...people. Wow. Calm yourself

Feb. 21, 11:30 a.m. - Freese takes Franklin yard OPPOSITE field in live BP. That was a bomb.

Feb. 21, 11:22 a.m. - Franklin warming up now. Will throw to Theriot, Molina, Freese, Craig, Schumaker, and Punto.

Feb. 21, 11:21 a.m. - Molina telling everyone how incredible Wainwright looked today. Now throwing a change up more to compliment everything else he already throws...sinker, slider, curveball, 4 seam fastball.

Feb. 21, 11:04 a.m. - Garcia up now vs the same hitting group.

Feb. 21, 11:02 a.m. - Wainwright and Holliday now talking some friendly trash to each other. Holliday asking him how long he's been working on his "bp fastball".And says he destroys Wainwright's change up.

Feb. 21, 10:54 a.m. - Wainwright and Holliday sharing a laugh after he gets a slider in the dirt. Friends having some fun while competing in practice.

Feb. 21, 10:47 a.m. - Wainwright throwing BP to Pujols now. This drill is 100% for the
pitchers. Batters hardly swing.

Feb. 21, 10:43 a.m. - Just noticed Allen Craig is rocking #21 here in camp. Nick Punto's seniority robbed him of #8.

Feb. 21, 10:35 a.m. - Where's Tyler Greene you ask? That would be with the outfielders. His ticket onto the team is, first, actually hitting and, second, showing defensive versatility. That includes the ability to play CF.

Feb. 21, 10:31 a.m. - All players fielding grounders are throwing over to 1st base...where
Mark McGwire is playing. He's even picked a few off the dirt.

Feb. 21, 10:25 a.m. - Check that. Kozma at second base. Interesting. Probably just a numbers thing for now while they warm up. Can't fathom they'd give their 2007 1st round pick time there over shortstop. Or maybe they would...

Feb. 21, 10:23 a.m. - Theriot, Punto and Solano at SS while Schumaker and Descalso at 2B.

Feb. 21, 10:17 a.m. - Infielders and outfielders all getting ready to begin defensive drills. Playing catch now. McGwire even getting loose.

Feb. 21, 10:09 a.m. - Sky is extremely overcast in parts but clear in others. Not sure if its going to rain or not.

Feb. 21, 9:58 a.m. - Drills today include running with parachutes attached to the players' backs.

Feb. 21, 9:57 a.m. - Pretty good amount of fans here today. By far and away the most I've seen yet in Spring Training.

Feb. 21, 9:43 a.m. - Other notes from Weiner: Drafted players and a potential slotting system will be a topic of negotiation just like smokeless tobacco and educating the public on it.

Feb. 21, 9:35 a.m. - Players are finally done with all these meetings. Heading to the field now to stretch.

Feb. 21, 9:34 a.m. - Weiner also says he wouldn't expect a work stoppage but you always have to be prepared for that.

Feb. 21, 9:33 a.m. - Michel Weiner, head of players union, speaks briefly to the media. Says negotiations for a new CBA will begin in full once the season ends. They will meet once or twice though during spring.

Feb. 21, 9:16 a.m. - First person to show his face? Albert. On the phone. I'm assuming the meetings are over...but if there's one person who can duck out of a meeting its #5.

Feb. 21, 9: 13 a.m. - Schedule is out. No players yet though. Wainwright, Garcia, Franklin and McClellan throwing live BP. Working on defense before that. Late start because of meeting. 10:30 eastern stretch.
