(KMOV) -- Illinois State Police are investigating a shooting involving a Dupo police officer.

It happened around 2:00 a.m. on Monday at a home in the 100 block of North 9th Street.

A Dupo police officer responded to a domestic disturbance at the home. When the officer arrived, a 41-year-old man was standing at the front door.

The officer says he had a confrontation with the man and shot him after feeling threatened.

The 41-year-old man was transported to a St. Louis area hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest.

No word yet on the shooting victim's condition, or the status of the police officer who shot him.

Neighbors told News 4 the police have been called to that house a few times, but there's not normally a big problem.
