ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – A suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of a National Guardsman.

Jacqueline Barron, 18, was arrested in Alton, Illinois on Friday for the murder of Lawrence Valiant, 32. Valiant was a cook in the National Guard who was preparing for another deployment to Afghanistan.

Police believe the murder resulted from a robbery attempt outside his apartment in the 2900 block of Caddiefiled Road in Ferguson February 13. Officials believe Barron had a motive in the robbery.

Police are still looking for a male accomplice.

Lawrence Valiant, 32, stumbled to a nearby home after being shot and told his neighbors what happened.

Neighbors say they tried to help Valiant, but were not able to do much.

Valiant’s funeral is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. at Christ Southern Baptist at 5630 Page.

Barron is being held on a $1 million bond for Second-Degree Murder, Armed Criminal Action, and First-Degree Attempted Robbery.
