BLOOMFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- A 20-year-old southeast Missouri woman has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to charges for starving her infant daughter.
Amanda Knight Garrett of Dexter was sentenced to four years supervised probation Wednesday. She pleaded in January to felony endangering the welfare of a child.
Garrett and the baby's father were arrested June 3. They were accused of neglecting their 3-month-old daughter by not feeding her or caring for her properly. Authorities said at the time of the arrest that the baby weighed less than 6 pounds.
Officials say the child is thriving under state care.
The judge also ordered that Garrett not have any children in her custody while on probation.
The Daily American Republic says the child's father, Vabian Webb, has a preliminary hearing Friday on similar charges.
