(KMOV) – A verbal argument led to a female passenger being struck in the head with heavy chains and padlocks by a man on a Metro bus in north St. Louis Wednesday evening, police say.

This happened when a fight erupted on the bus on a route through the O’Fallon Park neighborhood.

A 59-year-old male boarded the bus at West Florissant and Thrush and began arguing with the 49-year-old woman.  Another person on the bus then hit the suspect who took a heavy chain and attempted to hit the passenger, but missed and hit the victim in the head.

The bus driver immediately pulled over, and once the chain wielding man stepped off the bus, other passengers beat him up to wrestle away the chains.

The suspect was taken into custody.  The victim was taken to an area hospital with a non life-threatening injury.

The investigation is ongoing.
