CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois Athletic Director Ron Guenther says he's confident coach Bruce Weber can fix problems in a basketball program the AD acknowledged isn't living up to expectations.
Guenther said Wednesday that the senior-heavy Illini (16-9, 6-6 Big Ten) haven't played up to their potential in a season in which they were expected to contend for a Big Ten title.
The athletic director said he won't force changes on Weber will leave it up to the eighth-year coach to make any needed changes.
Guenther said he expects Illinois to make an NCAA Tournament appearance every year.
The Illini missed the tournament last season. After losing six of their last nine they need a strong finish to return.
Guenther also said the school may revive long-stalled plans to renovate the 48-year-old Assembly Hall.
