How long will this thaw continue?
I've been looking at the mid-term to long-term forecast for the next 2 weeks to answer that question and for the most part...the thaw continues. Temperatures overall in the next couple of weeks look mild and above normal (40s, 50s and 60s). There will be an occasional cool spell, but I don't see a cold blast until the 27th-28th, click here to see what one forecast model is showing. That will be something to watch, but it's 2 weeks away, so timing and location of the cold front certainly may change.
Otherwise the pattern looks normal to above normal. Keep in mind that normal highs are mid 40s now and by the end of the month around 49. So you would expect that type of mild air this time of the year. But there is a good chance for several days with well above normal temperatures. For instance, this Wednesday and Thursday we will be in the 60s as temperatures run about 20 degrees above normal.
However, the pattern over the next couple of weeks looks like a seasaw....Warm-up, cool down briefly, then warm back up.
An example of that is the cold front that hits this Friday, ending our highs in the 60s and bringing a chill to the area Friday night into Saturday. You can see the drop in temperatures most drastically when you look at my Friday morning forecast of 52 compared to my Saturday morning forecast of 28.
So, expect a lot of ups and downs in temperatures over the next 2 weeks, but the downs only take us down to near normal and the ups bring us well above normal.
