COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- Five-time Olympian Dara Torres begins her comeback from major knee surgery at the annual Missouri Grand Prix swim meet this weekend in Columbia.
Torres is a 43-year-old mother who won three silver medals at the 2008 Olympics. She had reconstructive knee surgery in October 2009 and hopes to again train for a shot at the 2012 Games in London.
Torres is entered in the 50-meter freestyle, which takes place Saturday on the University of Missouri campus. The Missouri race will be the first since surgery for the four-time Olympic gold medalist.
Olympic gold winners Rebecca Soni and Ricky Berens are among the other U.S. National team members scheduled to swim. The four-day competition begins Friday.
