(KMOV) -- An investigation has revealed that the two alpacas that were mauled and killed last Friday morning were attacked by dogs.

The incident happened on Sandy Church Road near Hillsboro, Missouri.

Missouri conservation agents say the prints found at the scene belong to dogs.

The two alpacas were killed in a family's backyard, but two other alpacas were not attacked.

Alpacas are gentle animals that wouldn't fight back.

The family has set up a trail camera and a trap in case the dogs return.
