(KMOV) – Police are looking for a thief who stole chips worth several thousand dollars from the Lumiere Place Casino.

The incident happened Tuesday night, and the suspect is still on the run.

A source inside the casino confirmed the story. The thief reportedly walked up to a gaming table and snatched a roll of $500 chips worth about $20,000. He then is said to have ran across the casino floor and then jumped a rail. He dropped about $3,000 worth of chips before reaching his getaway car and fleeing the scene.

The daring robber appears to be a near copycat of the robbery at the Bellagio in Las Vegas in December 2010. The thief in that case escaped with $1.5 million in chips. However, that suspect was caught.

One source at the Lumiere says that the Casino carded and recorded the thief’s driver’s license as he entered the casino. The casino is also monitored with surveillance cameras which will likely assist police in this case.

The thief also reportedly dropped his cell phone as he ran out of the casino.

Lumiere Place has not returned calls to News 4 for comment, but state police say are on the case.
