(KMOV.com) – The operator of a residential care facility in Wildwood has been fined after a jury determined the facility broke the law when did not have running water for three days in January 2010.

A jury fined the operators of Whispering Oaks, a facility for people with serious disabilities, $135,000 for violating Missouri’s drinking water laws. Attorney General Chris Koster said the company operated an onsite well that was the only source of water for Whispering Oaks and a neighboring nursing home.

The jury also determined that for two and a half years the company failed to maintain adequate water pressure, did not have a certified operator for the well, and  also did not have a plan to address emergencies if the running water stopped working.
