The wrong-way driver was identified as Robert Eberhardt, 66, of Arnold. According to police, Eberhardt was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two other victims sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital.

The victim of another wrong way crash on Highway 21 said the stretch of road where  Tuesday's accident occurred is very dangerous.

Do not enter signs and red reflectors are in placed near the junction with Route 141 to alert drivers if they are heading in the wrong direction. Despite the warning signs, officers said drivers still need to be alert because of the nature of the road.

"There's times with the lights in different areas, especially if you are not familiar with the area, it could become confusing. That's when you need to focus, get your bearings, if you need to pull over to the side of the road," said Corporal Justin Wheatley with Missouri Highway Patrol.
