ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- An amateur motorcycle racer died Sunday as a result of injuries sustained during a crash at Gateway Motorsports Park.
A St. Louis County coroner said 24-year-old Christopher Knauer lost control of his motorcycle during a race at the Madison County, Illinois track Sunday afternoon and crashed. He was rushed to St. Louis University Hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after.
The race was sponsored by the Midwest Cafe Racing Association. Track officials said they had more than the required safety measures for the event.
