(KMOV.com) – Police say a typically safe popular south St. Louis neighborhood has seen a drastic uptick in violent crimes this year.
According to police, the Carondolet area has seen 67 percent increase in robberies and a 45 percent spike in aggravated assaults in 2014.
Residents say they would like to see police hand out more citations. They believe the problem could get worse if not tackled head-on.
"If they don't crack down on what's going on right now, it's going to get even worse than the way it is now," said one resident.
Police say there has also been a crackdown on prostitution in Carondelet.
Authorities have not said whether there will be an increase in patrols.
