(KMOV) – Firefighters in Wentzville will be going door-to-door this week asking residents to vote for two propositions on the August ballot.
If passed, Prop I would increase property taxes by 25 cents to hire firefighters. Prop F is a $30 million bond issue created to build two new fire stations.
Firefighters with the Wentzville Fire Protection District say they will be canvassing to get the word out about why they need the money.
Officials say Wentzville itself grew more than 300 percent between 2000 and 2010. That has led to a seven-minute response time for firefighters, with the national average being about four minutes.
All funding for their campaigning is coming from an outside organization many of the firefighters contribute to.
