(BaseballStL) – Trevor Rosenthal came in the ninth inning and allowed a base runner with one out in the 3-1 game.

But he induced a game ending double play from AJ Ellis to give the 24-year-old his 24th save of the season.

Carlos Martinez began the fifth inning with his second hit of the game, but a bunt from Matt Carpenter forced the starter out at second.

Matt Holliday singled to move Carpenter over to second to give the Redbirds two runners on with one out. Matt Adams struck out, but Jhonny Peralta picked his teammate up by stroking a ball out to right center that dropped in between the outfielders allowing Carpenter and Holliday to score, pushing the Cards to a 3-1 lead.

Yadier Molina scored the first Cardinals run in 12 innings by going yard off Ryu.

Molina's seventh homer of the season stayed just fair over the left field wall to tie the game at one. Jon Jay followed Molina's two out home run with a single to left field, but Mark Ellis stranded Jay by grounding out back to the mound.

The Dodgers continued to apply pressure to Carlos Martinez and the Cardinals into the second inning, scoring one run after a walk.

AJ Ellis led off the inning with a walk followed by an infield single from Miguel Rojas. Martinez got starter Ryu to strike out. But Dee Gordon made Martinez pay for the walk by driving in Ellis to give the Dodgers the lead.

With Yasiel Puig at bat, a ball got away from Yadier Molina, but he threw a bullet to Martinez in time to tag Rojas out at the plate. Puig then grounded out to Jhonny Peralta to end the inning.

A testy first inning for the Cardinals resulted in stranding two runners on base as Dodgers’ starter Hyun-Jin Ryu struck out the side.

The Dodgers came stomping into their half of the first inning with back-to-back singles from Yasiel Puig and Adrian Gonzalez with one out.

Carlos Martinez then got Matt Kemp to strike out with an 88 mph curve-ball. With runners at first and third and two outs, Martinez issued a free pass to Scott Van Slyke on a six-pitch at-bat. But Martinez left the bases stranded getting Juan Uribe to fly out to right.
