ST. LOUIS COUNTY ( – Parents are furious after learning a strange man reportedly tried to lure two ten year old boys into his SUV near Craig Elementary School in the Parkway School District.

Police say if it happens once, it will happen again. Tonight the school district is going above and beyond to make sure that’s not the case.

“It’s incredibly frightening especially given the age we are talking about elementary school students,” said Principal Bill Senti.

Police say the 10-year-old boys were walking home Friday on when an older white man wearing a blue baseball cap, in a grey Lexus SUV pulled up, opened the door and asked the boys to get in.

“In this case we were very lucky,” said Senti. “The kids were smart, they didn’t go with the stranger and they went immediately to tell an adult.”

School officials sent home a letter in English and Spanish explaining what happened, and is using just about every form of communication available to get this message out. With information pushes through email, their website, facebook page and twitter, officials say they want everyone in their community to know what happened, the description of the suspect and what to do to keep their children safe.

Police support the effort to prepare and educate parents, saying the suspect’s attempt to abduct two boys is probably not going to remain an isolated incident.

“If it’s a real pedophile or real guy out there who is up to no good, generally speaking they’ll keep doing it,” said St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch. “And they’ll keep doing it till they get caught.”

School officials plan to review the safe steps for walking to school this week.

After the boys refused to get in, the man in the SUV drove away and there have been no sightings.
