ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – After Missouri took down Tennessee 51-48 in a four overtime thriller on Saturday, head coach Gary Pinkel took the time to praise the fans that made the trip.
It turns out a lot more Mizzou fans showed up to Knoxville than he initially anticipated.
According to the Missouri Tiger Scholarship Fund, nearly 10,000 fans traveled to Knoxville to witness the Tigers capture their first road SEC victory.
"It was a great showing of Mizzou fans from a national standpoint and we're very thankful for that," said Pinkel.
During his weekly press conference on Monday, Pinkel reiterated his point, saying he was very appreciative of the turnout.
“It surpassed anything anyone could imagine,” he said. "I'm very appreciative of all the Mizzou fans and the turnout that we had at the game. Our fans get 'it' being in this league and we appreciate that as we build our program."
