HOUSTON – A young woman was killed in Spring early Saturday when she fell from the hood of her boyfriend’s jeep while trying to stop him from driving drunk, according to investigators.
The 27-year-old victim was found lying in the street in the 22600 block of Spring Crossing around 3:30 a.m.
She was rushed by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital, but she didn’t survive.
Neighbors said they heard her begging Jeremy Stanford not to drive because he’d been drinking.
Investigators say Stanford ignored his girlfriend’s pleas and took off with her clinging to the hood of his jeep. She fell off and suffered severe head injuries.
"It’s just a shame," said Sean Oliver, who lives in the boyfriend’s neighborhood where the accident happened. "Originally I thought it was a wreck, but there was no cars."
"It’s very, very sad ‘cause we saw the lady a couple of times, like, I say just, ‘Hi’ and ‘Bye’ and that’s it," said Lionel Munguia, a neighbor.
Jeremy Stanford was arrested and charged with felony DWI. Prosecutors will decide whether to also charge him with intoxication manslaughter.
