St. Louis County firm's job: Waking up parents

SUNSET HILLS, Mo. (AP) -- Paul Langhorst has a simple explanation for what his business does: "We wake parents up."

Langhorst is co-founder and chief marketing officer for GroupCast Messaging Services. The St. Louis County-based business with 50 employees is mainly known for SchoolReach, an instant messaging service for parents in more than 4,000 schools across the country.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the system sends out automated messages by phone, email, text or computer to alert parents about things such as snow cancellations, schedule changes, emergencies and meetings.

SchoolReach has added a CyberBully Hotline, which allows students and parents to anonymously text or email school counselors if they come across students who are having trouble with bullies.
