Missouri voters reject Prop B, tobacco tax raise

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri voters reject effort to raise tobacco tax, keeping the state's rate the lowest in the nation.

The measure would have increased the state cigarette tax from 17 cents to 90 cents.

Twenty percent of the funds generated from the tax increase were slated to pay for smoking cessation programs. The rest were to be set aside for education.
