NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Police say a Louisiana man told investigators he decapitated his disabled 7-year-old son because he had grown tired of caring for the boy, who had cerebral palsy and used a wheelchair.
Police Chief Scott Silverii said Monday that 30-year-old Jeremiah Lee Wright of Thibodaux confessed to killing Jori Lirette within a half-hour of being brought to the police station Sunday. Wright was booked with first-degree murder and held in lieu of $5 million bond. Detective Ricky Ross, a department spokesman, says Wright did not have an attorney.
A preliminary autopsy indicated Jori also had been bludgeoned. Silverii says his head was left by the side of the road so the child's mother, 27-year-old Jesslyn Lirette, would see it when she came home.
