Alton, IL man struck and killed by Amtrak Train

ALTON, Ill. (KMOV)—A 50-year-old man was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Saturday night.

According to the Madison County Coroner, Lawrence Meyer of Alton, IL was struck by a St. Louis bound passenger train about 360 feet west of the Humbert Road crossing at 10 p.m.
 
The train traveled from Chicago and was scheduled to stop in Alton before ending in St. Louis.
 
Meyer was pronounced dead at the scene.  Routine toxicological testing will be performed to check if drugs or alcohol were present at the time of the accident.
 
The Alton Police Department continue to investigate this incident.
