(KMOV.com) -- A St. Louis mother has been charged after police said she left her 17-month-old child alone in a vehicle while she ate dinner at a south St. Louis restaurant.

Authorities were called to the 5100 block of Hampton Avenue on August 10th after someone reported seeing a young child alone in a vehicle.  When officers arrived, they found the child sleeping in a safety seat inside a Toyota Tundra.

According to reports, the windows were rolled up and a passenger door was left unlocked.  Officers said the child was sweating, but did not appear to be seriously injured.

Police eventually located the child's mother eating dinner on a nearby restaurant patio.  The mother, Shanna Cooksey, 29, from St. Louis, has been charged with 2nd degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Cooksey was originally released at the scene.  The warrant against Cooksey was issued on Thursday.
